Victor Zamudio was awarded his PhD degree at University of Essex in 2009. Prior to this he was lecturer at ITESM Campus Leon (Mexico). Victor’s PhD was entitled “Understanding and Preventing Periodic Behaviour in Ambient Intelligence”. In this work, he investigated an instability phenomenon that had been observed (but not understood) in ambient intelligence and pervasive computing systems. Applying his strong physics and mathematical background, Victor was able to develop a theoretical framework that allowed this phenomenon to be understood and reasoned about. From complex systems theory he found that, whilst it is not possible to predict an occurrence of such instability, structures that are susceptible to it can nevertheless be identified and, using theory he developed, altered to prevent this problem occurring.
